Google Chrome
Like any educated web surfer I have been free of the stupidity of IE for years now. If you haven’t done so yet, you need to delete it from your computer and download a better browser NOW. There are many capable and functional browsers out there, but today I discovered a great new option.
Much in line with simple and super-functional web applications Google has released their first web browser called Google Chrome. I just downloaded it and I have instantly become a fan. I am already a loyal user of most of their web apps like gmail, picasa, google reader, and google maps. But this new browser has knocked my socks off.
It takes all of the things I hate about firefox and simplifies them, and all the things I hate about safari and made them more usable. With tab browsing, a bookmark bar, google application integration, and a sleek and open layout it is as functional as it is beautiful.
Right now it’s in the Beta stage and can only be run on a PC with either XP or Vista, but Google has assured us that there will be improvements and fixes along the way as well as a Mac version. I can’t wait to try it out on my powerbook.
Do yourself a favor and download it now for free. You won’t regret it.

Beware of editing using the WYSIWYG editor in Joomla with Chrome. Mass chaos may follow. I learned that the hard way.

I just hope they hold to standards. Tired of having to tweak CSS and XHTML to work over many browsers. If we could only get rid of IE 6, life would be good… though recently had a customer at work complain that things weren’t working right on our site. Found out he was using…. NETSCAPE!

Man, you truly do share my frustration. In a perfect world there would only be one web browser for every computer. I think that using a browser that is as out of date as Netscape should be a crime.

Chrome is built on the same engine as Safari, so there’s no changes with compatibility or standards (thank goodness).

My hunch will be that IE 10 will be based off some open source browser as well. As people in Microsoft have dropped that hint recently (that a future version would use open source), and since IE 8 and 9 (I believe) are already under development, 10 would be the logical place for it.
Though give Microsoft credit, IE 7 is standard enough that I’ve yet to have to code differently for it. IE 8 is supposed to be MUCH better than IE 7… so they are getting there. Competition is a good thing.
